Indonesia Environmental Exhibition, Jakarta June 3-6, 2010 Print E-mail

Jakarta Convention Centre (JCC), was became a spotlight area in June 3-6, 2010, due to an Environmental Day Exhibition and Conference (Pekan Lingkungan Indonesia, PLI) held. The Vice President of Indonesia, Mr. Budiono opened PLI, where in his remarks he stated that  public awareness is very important in implementation of green and sustainable development. Vice President also emphasize that biodiversity not just be a slogan but should have an impact to community and future generation. PLI 2010 is the 42nd-PLI event hosted by Ministry of Environmental (MOE), where this year came along with theme “Biodiversity is Future of Our Earth Life”. PLI-2010 also link to CSR (corporate social responsibility) theme, agenda and  campaigning. “The right keyword to prevent environmental degradation is start right now and don’t be late to take action” said Mr. Budiono.  He also remain that environmental degradation problem was very huge and escalating and need a publicity movement to enforcing and prioritizing of integtrated-solution.  “We have to collaborate and built trust each other” said Budiono.

Total 180 booths are participated as representatives of provinces, districts, private sectors, mining and CSRs, NGOs, Press, Universities and research agencies. Reward inauguration, social movement, youth environmental awareness also conducted during PLI. MOE, Ministry of Religion, Ministry of Health, Army and Statistic Agency also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Community-based Environmental Management and Protection. Beside that, PLI also reward the journalist and media who publish a critic, analytic and monitoring of environmental issues actively. It was  awarded to media Jakarta Globe (magazine), Kompas  and Jakarta Post (newspaper).

Meanwhile, Former Minister of Environmental, Mr. Sarwono Kusumaatmaja said  reformation of bureaucracy is must be done to ensure that government’s vision and commitment in environmental protection and sustainable are implementable. “Autonomy era is like big train fully passengers, slow moving to attain vision and development target, including in climate change and environmental aspect, so it must be reformed to be a slimmer and effective bureaucracy” said Sarwono.


Water Secure Campaign
During PLI, WASPOLA Facility’s booth is visited by thousands visitors from various background.   WASPOLA Facility invited participant  to campaign interactively for water security and appropriate sanitation practice. By choosing some campaign materials, visitor expressed their vision for safe water and sanitation  in a small banner-captured that they pick up from WASPOLA Facility’s booth.
“To reduce plastic garbage, I will bring my own-bag when shopping to the market” said Ms. Wiwit. Other person said” Clean toilet is appropriate place to me to find my inspiration” said a  male visitor. In general, mostly participants are enjoy to share their vision and  happy to visit this stand.



Beside that, in the WASPOLA Facility’s booth visitor also  can find a sanitation clinic and learning which addressed to the student and kids visitors. They are like to get the Percik Yunior magazine and answer some quiz. Some of them try and enjoy to used the plastic-reuse cloth. They came with their mother and grandfather and grandmother.

“I feel happy to visit this stand, it very interactive and educate, hope next year still be participation” said a grandma with  her 6-years girl.
